We have waited one Plutonium-241 half life for a Half Life game.

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 09:59 AM PST

The half life of Plutonium-241 is 14 years, just something to think about.

Ive always knew the reason behind HL series is to push development in video games. This is the next frontier in gaming. All hail Lord Gaben.

HLVR Is Not For Your Appeasement

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 07:17 PM PST

This is a message to all the folks complaining about Valve "insulting" fans for making a VR exclusive.

We get it. You're upset you can't participate and you feel left out. And for what it's worth, nobody is happy that you're being left out. But here's what you need to understand: Valve isn't developing this game to appease your thirst for closure on the series.

If you examine the history of the series you'll notice something. Half Life and HL2 were industry leading innovations. They brought new concepts, fresh ideas, and revolutionized the industry. Twice. So much of what you enjoy about video games these days can be traced directly back to Valve and Half Life:

    • Advanced physics
    • Advanced NPC and player models (realistic facial modeling that was so fucking LIFELIKE in its time as to be mesmerizing)
    • Modding
    • The modern first person shooter
    • NPC Voice Acting

All of this, Valve either did it FIRST or vastly improved upon it to the point that nobody has thought of doing it differently since then.

They don't half-ass anything, which is why Half Life 3 hasn't been a thing. Releasing yet another status-quo chapter without anything to add other than a pretty bow on a story line isn't what Valve does. They are pushing this game now and on VR because they've made a breakthrough. Not because they feel it's time to finally give you what you crave.

And, to give you a bit of hope for the future... If what they release is truly revolutionary, it's going to mainstream VR more so than it has already. People will WANT this game, and it will drive development in VR, improve the competitive landscape for VR peripherals by driving up demand, and reduce cost by making the tech more available. Even if you don't have VR right now, this is a good thing. It heralds a new era in gaming, because that's what Half Life has always done.

Almost 5 years ago I asked r/halflife what they would do when the next HL game got announced.

Former Valve dev talks about HL:A

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 09:55 AM PST

So in my research into how many Half-Life devs still work at Valve I found this little tidbit on the forum ResetEra. This is from a verified former Valve employee made after the game was announced:

"Finally I can talk about this :)

First had the privilege of playing and working on it a bit over 2 years ago during my time at Valve. It was honestly already a crazy amazing experience back then, Valve has poured so much love, care, and though into the next story in the Half-Life universe. I can't even imagine how much they've polished it these last two years.

If the direction is still the same as it was some time ago, there's another huge announcement tied to this that'll likely happen simultaneously or soon after, which nobody has heard or mentioned anything of. That could mean it was scrapped or is under particularly tight wraps. I'm hoping for the latter :) "

Get hyped. (The person later clarified the other announcement is something to do with hardware, not software, so no they're not going to stealth drop HL3)

I don't get how links work on Reddit so here's a direct link to the post: https://www.resetera.com/threads/half-life-alyx-announced.153890/page-28#post-26600867

So are we gonna actually SEE the game tomorrow?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 04:08 PM PST

Or will it just be the Geoff interview with only people talking? I'd like an actual trailer, then maybe gameplay at the Game Awards. I feel like they need to show something from the actual game tomorrow.....

    I love Alyx Vance

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 12:47 PM PST

I always consider her as a great character. Some time around playing Episode Two, she became best fictious character ever for me. But that has changed after tenth anniversary of Episode Two. When it was one decade, it hit me. These were extraordinary times. I was reading Epistle 3, listened Path of Borealis over and over, and was very depressed because for both of story and real world were futile hope. When I was playing Half-Life 2 series these days (which was my best playthrough), I realized it. I love Half-Life universe and more of that, I really love Alyx Vance.

I love her as a person. And everything on her. Her name, her appearance with brown jacket patched by duct tape, her Merle Dandridge's voice, her personality, being badass, being frightened, style of speech, movements, silly attempts to be funny. Et cetera.

There is vast amount of characters in many media that are more elaborated. Alyx isn't extra particularly shown. No it's not a question of occurrence. It's a concept of human. And that's absolutely genius. She has it inside.

I thought that because she is fictious, and there won't be more official content, she will remain forever, who she is. Woman in her mid-twenties, with headband and unmistakable hairstyle. She will never change and she will never die.

I feel sorry for her, whenever I see any shit about her. She doesn't deserve that.

This is also extraordinary day. Last day, when Alyx is still known only from Half-Life 2 series. But old perception of Alyx is gone already and new has not yet been created. I am mad becuase there will be Half-Life with her name in the title. This is something I always imagined, but I was always scared how Valve could handle it.

Tomorrow we will see new side of Alyx. My love to her isn't gonna be changed by that or anything. I'm a completely hopeless case.

    Half Life: Shepard?

    Posted: 20 Nov 2019 09:29 PM PST

If they make another half life game after Alyx that isn't Half Life 3, a story about Adrian Shepard should happen.

    Anyone else agree?

Other then half life 3, what other ideas for half life games do you want to see?
