Half-Life Half-Life: Alyx. Now Available. |
- Half-Life: Alyx. Now Available.
- Are we posting "readyness" pics? I was 18 when Half Life came out, so it's been a journey literally "half" my "life" to here. (Dad jokes FTW)
- Here's to all of us.
- Mike Shapiro on Twitter: I will see you... up ahead.
- So this is what it feels like to experience a new Half-Life release, huh?
- With the release of Half Life: Alyx under an hour away. i decided to pull out a special t-shirt. I cant believe it survived this long!
- How those of us that have been waiting since 2007 feel today:
- after 13 years
- Happy birthday to me! I turn 28 today. If you told 15 year old me the next half-life game would release when he was exactly 28, he would have never believed you. How old were you in 2007?
- I am getting jittery, its been years! I'm so excited to see Valve's creation. Cheers!
- Pc Gamer review is up!
- New Nvidia drivers for HL:A!
- In the hype for Alyx I have made the Combine APC with (virtual) LEGO!
- PSA: At least on WMR, left handed bindings also invert joysticks. To fix this, switch the left handed and right handed joystick and d-pad bindings.
- I am ready for Half-Life: Alyx! (Remember to charge your VR controllers!)
- The wait is deafening
- This is a Red Letter Day
- I think I can't express my hype for the next 2 weeks

Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:20 AM PDT Here's to those of us who have waited over a decade for a new Half-Life game and are therefore duly excited to step into this world for the first time again in less than an hour. Here's to those of us who learned of these games recently because they were free, or because they play VR and saw the new title. Welcome to what can only be described as a family, a family that shares common excitement and common pain. Here's to those of us who never gave up hope. It would have been so much easier to accept the idea that there would never be another entry in the saga. It would have been so damn easy to let go, to not do a Google search on a weekly, sometimes daily basis of "Half-Life 3" with the search parameters limited to the last few days. Whether you truly believed there would be another game or whether you were just stubborn, it's a truly special feeling to know that the borderline-paranoia was justified, that our (im)patience has finally paid off. Here's to those of us who gave up hope. I don't blame you. There were times I personally wanted to let it go. And there were so many reasons to. You were, perhaps, the reasonable ones. The pragmatists that knew the pain that awaited them if they succumbed to the fool's hope that many of us clinged to. Here's to those of us who do not have VR-ready machines or a headset. I feel your pain; I really do. I understand why Valve made Alyx VR-only. To make a version with no VR would be to make another game entirely. But I understand how much it must truly hurt to not experience this title yourself after all these years of waiting. Here's to those of us who will be playing it for ourselves in mere minutes. There are no words for this surreal feeling that has pervaded my mind for the last twelve hours. A shade of disbelief, an overwhelming excitement, and a hint of trepidation. Please do not feel guilty that you get to play it for yourself while others do not. It's a terrible situation for some people, but their pain is not yours to bear. Enjoy this game. Please. Here's to those of us who will be watching gameplay footage live or recorded. I truly hope you have an incredible experience, and that you find yourself immersed in the game and transported to City 17. Here's to those of us who will be streaming the game. You are true heroes. I tried a test last night myself only to find that it wouldn't produce acceptable results. Thank you for giving up a truly immersive experience to share it with tens, hundreds, or thousands of viewers. Here's to those of us who have passed away before they got a chance to play this game. I have no further words that I can bring myself to say coherently, just that you will be missed, and I'm sorry you never got the chance to see this day. Here's to anyone else who sees this post. Maybe you'll read this and understand our plight and our joy. I encourage you to check these games out for yourself. There is no effective way to fully explain their impact and significance. They must be experienced to understand. I hope you one day get the chance. Here's to Valve. Thank you. I know between the litany of emails you must have received over the years, the anguished cry of thousands when Artifact was announced, and the long posts like this one you see here, you must have some idea of what this game means to us. I don't think you ever will, though. Just like we couldn't imagine what it was like to work on this game for so long, unable to share them with the world, not to mention all the progress you made on the actual Half-Life 3 before benching it. We experience these games in different ways, though I suspect they mean just as much to you as they do us, if not more. Thank you for continuing this saga after all these years. Please enjoy this release like we do. Don't let whiny articles about your so-called lack of care for consumers taint this day. You had every reason to move on from IPs. Companies evolve. It is truly special and honestly amazing to me that you chose to develop games when you had every right to leave them behind. So thank you. This day belongs to all of us. So here's to all of us. So this is what it feels like to experience a new Half-Life release, huh? Posted: 23 Mar 2020 09:33 AM PDT I am actually shaking a little bit I'm so fucking excited. I've been pretty much a lifelong fan of the series ever since I first played The Orange Box in 2007 when I was 7 years old. I've been addicted to Source gaming ever since then, playing them throughout my adolescence and entire teenagehood but never actually experiencing a new Half-Life release until now. Posted: 23 Mar 2020 07:08 AM PDT https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksgbQabT_B8 Now that we are in the final 3 hours before release, I just wanted to say its been a fun 12 year ride with all of you. For those of us who have been here since 98' and those that joined the hype train last year, the time has finally come. Please don't rush into and through this game. Take the time to revel in the experience. Lets collectively try to relive the wonder and amazement we felt back in 2004. And above all else, just take the time to appreciate what lay before you--a new, untapped, never-before-seen Half-Life game. It's really that time again. [link] [comments] | ||
