Just accidentally discovered that you can manipulate where G-Man looks in the hl2 intro scene by moving around right away when you start a new game before your character's movement is restricted.

Alyx being the main player character made sense in Half-Life: Alyx from a narrative and VR gameplay standpoint.

    Posted: 05 Mar 2020 07:44 PM PST

I think the gameplay in this new game will be a lot slower pace not only because of it's VR nature where players usually spend a longer time in one place compared to regular "flat" FPS, but it's also because Alyx will not be running around City 17 without her own "safety suit" or an HEV. From a narrative standpoint, she'll be more careful through her journey because she doesn't have the proper safety gear other than her weapons. She's just a normal human being.

Instead of getting large physics based puzzles, we'll probably get small versions of that and to add more diversity, we get the hacking puzzles. Platforming puzzles are the same thing. Alyx or any other normal being doesn't have the ability to jump long distances or sprint long distances without being exhausted. The HEV suit is needed for those scenarios.

I also speculate that we're going to get minimal swimming sections here too because of the HEV suit reasons. Maybe a half a minute of swimming, sure, some people can do that, but swimming for several minutes, being underwater while doing underwater puzzles are scenarios where the HEV suit is needed.

Driving sections are a no go too. If VR is all about interacting with the environment and spending a ton of time with said single environment, driving kinda removes that opportunity. I mean, Valve wouldn't want to spend extra time to place and design the driving section maps for VR only to be "skipped" because they're meant to be passed by right? Also, people will get dizzy. We have teleportation for ground navigation, driving means constant locomotion.

This is also why if ever we're going to get the Gravity Gun, we will just have a small time with it because we know that they are heavy, let alone sprinting and jumping with said gun. Again, we need the HEV for that.

I'm not sure about melee weapons though, we know Alyx can kick zombies and stomp on them effectively, but the reason why Gordon can wield a crowbar and swing it with such ease is because of the HEV suit. Alyx or us, on the other hand, we have to swing it properly.

That's why I think weapon attachments (like the grenade on a shotty from the gameplay) and the upgradable attachments are added in the game because we might probably get the smallest selection of guns in a Half-Life game. However, through said attachments and upgradable, we will have a ton of variety of the same small selection of guns.

Just my two cents. I didn't do much research, but I've been thinking about this for several days now.
