    I love Half-Life 2, but...

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 01:32 AM PDT

I love Half-Life 2, it's a fantastic game, but there's something that's always bugged me about it. The whole story has this narrative of Humans rising up against the Combine to take back their home, but even as I played the game for the first time, it all seemed rather... pointless?

To explain, what I mean is that the Combine are an interdimensional empire that took over Earth in 7 hours. My shift at work lasts longer than 7 hours. How on earth are humans ever going to take Earth back, and hope to keep it, if their enemy is one that took over the planet in less time than it takes me to clock in and out?

During the 7 Hours War, there were enormous governments employing millions and millions of trained soldiers, governments also of which had nuclear bombs and other vast arsenals of weaponry. The combine destroyed or conquered ALL of them in 7 hours. How do the humans hope to fight the combine with worse odds than that, let alone with those odds?

In the game though, it shows humanity quite swiftly overthrowing the Combine, at least in and around City 17. Due to the intense size of the Combine's empire, I assume that to them, Earth is basically a grain of sand in a planet-sized desert. in other words, almost totally insignificant. I bet there are dozens of rebellions going on in the empire every day. On top of this, most of who you fight throughout the game are former humans anyways, so the Combine really don't lose out on much.

The problem for me is, if the humans were to ever liberate Earth, what's to stop the Combine from showing up again? If they took over Earth with all its military might in 7 hours, how long will the humans now last? 30 minutes?

Its a pretty glaring plothole if you ask me. Maybe I wasn't looking into the lore enough, but from what I remember, this is never addressed. I haven't played Half-Life: Alyx, so if there's something in there, my bad. And if there is something that explains this, I'd love to hear it! I very much like this game, but this is the main thing that breaks it for me.

    Half Life 1 Mods Remake

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 12:51 PM PDT

I'll be referring to this list here.

a clip of an early development black mesa echoes here!

Seeing as Black Mesa is moddable, I hope that people will hopefully make remakes of LEGENDARY HL1 Mods such as Echoes and They Hunger. So I'll be trying to find the remakes of these mods and you guys can help too!

Some random Half Life lore questions (spoilers for whole series)

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 09:24 PM PDT

    • Did the G-man set in motion the events of the resonance cascade?

    • Did he know the Combine would use Xen to invade earth?

    • Are all the G-man sightings canon? ie when you see him talking to a scientist in HL1, talking to a resistance fighter in HL2

    • Did Gman have an interest in Gordon prior to black Mesa incident ?

    Thanks

    Gabe Newell Easter Egg?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 09:12 PM PDT

I had just started playing Half Life: Opposing Force and had gotten pretty early into the game when this comically misplaced easter egg of sorts had occurred to me. It was shortly after I had started the "We are Pulling Out" section, and I believe it was in the room with the vents and the Vortigaunt. During the loading screen, instead of the screen saying "Loading," a picture of Gabe Newell's face popped up on screen in the word's place. I have tried to search for other examples of this on the internet but I cannot find anything or anyone else with a similar situation. I have no mods and am playing this on a fresh install of the game. Please tell me someone else has seen this. Here is an image of the occurrence.

    Future of HalfLife?

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 02:54 PM PDT

Hey, I have a question about the future of HL.
So we did get a "teaser of episode 3" in HL: Alyx, but is there any CONFIRMED information about future games or any productions in the Half-Life universe or we are in the middle of nothing?

Discussion: I just finished Opposing Force and Blue Shift

    Posted: 09 Apr 2021 07:27 PM PDT

From what I've heard Opposing Force was fantastic and Blue Shift was kind of terrible. I found it to be the exact opposite. I actually hated Opposing Force and adored Blue Shift. I really didn't like Opposing Force because of the Black Ops and Race X which were everywhere and extremely annoying, not to mention the awful marine AI and general bugginess. Blue Shift was still buggier than HL1 but more of a traditional Half Life experience without the dreaded Black Ops or Race X. What do you fellows think?
