On the Subject of VA's we lost over the years, here's to Jim French, AKA Father Grigori. I have no fucking clue how they would be able to find a VA to replace him if they choose to go to Ravenholm.

Anyone else DEFINITELY not gonna be able to play this game for several years but still excited as hell about it?

    Posted: 24 Nov 2019 05:18 AM PST

I am absolutely too poor to spend thousands of dollars on niche hardware, especially for one game, and I think a lot of people are going to be in the same boat as me come release of HLA. The thing is, while you bet your ass I'm personally annoyed as shit that I've been waiting for this for years and I won't be able to play it, I feel like people are missing the point that a new top tier valve product, let alone a new fucking half life game, is exactly what it might take to make something like VR not nearly as far fetched of a purchase for a lot of us than it would be otherwise.

If HLA comes out and it's amazing and lives up to the hype and does things with VR most of us never thought of like we can all reasonably anticipate it will (kinda crazy that's not wishful thinking but hey when it's valve as a developer it's p much impossible to go wrong as long as they actually try, which they very clearly are), then I guarantee this will be the first BIG push into the mainstream for VR. Adding to that, if Valve can lay down the groundwork for what a FULL VR experience should look like (similar to how HL and HL2 both did for their platforms and genres), it will surely open the floodgates for dozens of other developers to take a shot at it without feeling like they have to do so much of the revolutionizing themselves.

Basically it might suck now for the lot of us while one of our favorite game series FINALLY gets its follow up on a platform that is insanely out of our budget, but this might be what gets tons of other developers to finally figure out how to make their killer VR app. Before we know it the tech will be far more accessible and there will probably be plenty of other games worth getting an overpriced ass pair of goggles for. I just don't think people are appreciating how exciting of a time this could become for the games industry if VR eventually becomes a big part of it, because even after HLA comes out this is a complete fucking wild west of game design that I don't think we've seen since 3D graphics entered the picture. In a way VR's been that since it started, but you'd be hard pressed to find a better IP and developer to show a whole industry what's been sitting in front of us since they first started working on the Oculus.

I, for one, welcome our new VR overlords.

A moment of silence for everyone who did not live to see this day

Just that. I was thinking about how many HLs fans died in the past years while waiting for this moment.

A moment of silence for them.

    Dicks out.
