Posted: 27 Nov 2019 01:19 PM PST Alright so in HL2, we all know that iconic "pick up that can" scene. In HLA, they have cans & guards. But since it's virtual reality I could use Valve Index exclusive features like pressure measurement to crush the can & after throwing it at a guard using the individual finger measuring to give him the middle finger and tell him to PICK UP THAT CAN. The Catalyst Object (Half Life 1) Posted: 27 Nov 2019 05:20 PM PST Does anyone know or have an explanation for what the "yellow crystal" thing was in the original half-life? I understand that the effects afterwards were not completely "new" to the research facility, as the Lambda labs section shows that they had travelled to Xen previously and had brought back samples. Heck, you even get to witness a couple scientists studying a headcrab before you enter the big test chamber. Where did this yellow crystal come from? Was it an object taken from Nihilanth, who had portal-creating abilities, and when put into the test chamber, caused the substance to be "activated," creating a ton of interdimensional rifts between Earth, Xen, and possibly other universes? There is also a section in Half Life 2 where you first stumble into Eli Vance's lab, and you can observe a crystal bolted into some sort of scientific apparatus, which shares striking similarities to the crystal you interacted with in the first game. Interacting with this crystal will rotate it as different colored beams emanate from the object. Is this yellow crystal, capable of splitting and opening wormholes into other worlds, also the main core function of the portal gun? Did Aperture Science come in hot with a huge scientific breakthrough, and Black Mesa, not wanting to be left behind, got a hold of this crystal for themselves to create a bigger scientific breakthrough that would rival the portal technology? Think of getting a VR headset a capital investment Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:52 PM PST You'll get to play half life alyx and any mods that come from it. The best games have spawned from hl1 and 2 such as counter strike, team fortress, and Garrys mod. The future with valve is not VR exclusive games but rather mouse and keyboard and VR compatible games such as future half life games and left 4 dead 3. These games won't require the valve index so you'll be able to get the cheapest headset on the market, which is around $200USD. VR games are a completely different experience compared to console gaming and mouse and keyboard gaming. I play rec room on VR and I would never touch the game if I didn't have a headset because it's just not the same. It's just "eh" on mouse and keyboard but when I get on it with VR, it's pretty darn fun. Consider getting VR. Open a savings account and save for it. [link] [comments]
Replaying HL series for upcoming HL:Alyx. Posted: 27 Nov 2019 03:49 PM PST When i saw HL:Alyx i was hyped as hell. I was a bit skeptical about it being a VR title but when i saw the trailer....... oh man........ it looked great. I got even more hyped at close analysis. Last time i played a HL2 title was not so long ago, about 2 years and longer for first HL. I just completed HL, HL:OF and HL2 im about to start HL2:EPO and HL2:EPT. Here is my progress and thoughts about all of them(except EPO, EPT and BS) HL: Man, i had such a nostalgic feel playing through this game again as i always do. First off the levels, weapons, gameplay and soundtrack are amazing. It has the best weapons in the series(HL2 really lacks in this category compared to first one). The game gets really tough in the second half of rhe game. My only complain is the difficulty is unbalanced at times. For example you win but lose a lot of hp and armor in encounter A and going to encounter B you just don't have enough hp or ammo so you are gonna have a tough time. This is only for some sections. Nihilanth at the end gave me a lot of trouble but once i got the hand of the mechanics of the boss it was a lot easier but still not easy. 9.5/10 game for me. Best chapter: Surface tension or Nihilanth Hardest chapter: Surface tension Best weapons: Gauss gun, magnum, crossbow and gluon gun. Best enemies:alien grunt and gargantua HL:OF I only completed this one 2 times(now and once a long time ago). First of this game adds a lot of new things to the game(this is why i skipped BS, beacuse it has nothing new) :weapons, enemies, mechanics and a new main character Adrian Shepard. The weapons are even better here than in HL. Race x is also really cool in desing and in battle(EVERYTHING they use and they themselves are organic). The Gene Worm was an easy final boss, he was nothing compared to nihilanth. I beat Gene Worm first try, the mechanics to beat him are quite simple. But it suffers the same one little problem HL does. Last 15% to 20% of the game for me were really hard for some reason. I had 43hp and no armor at one point. All of this happend beacuse of that one encounter in rhe sewers i lost a lot of hp and ammo there. It was a good feeling easily beating Gene worm at the end after all the trouble. Hl:OF is for me on the same level as first HL. 9.5 for me. Best chapter:Foxtrot uniform or "The package" Hardest chapter: Foxtrot uniform Best weapons: M249, M40A1, Desert Eagle and submachine gun. (Spore launcher would also be here but the ammo for it was just too rare) Best enemies: Shock trooper Ps: i don't really have favourite weapon or enemies i just did it for the list. What are your favourite and hardest levels and do you agree with my ratings. [link] [comments]

Posted: 27 Nov 2019 10:10 AM PST Sorry, kinda. The pacing is terrible, the setpieces aren't nearly as memorable as Half Life or OpForc, and I beat the entire thing in 2 hours. There's many cutscenes where you just sit there for 5 minutes as a boring scientist goes on about shit you couldn't care less about. And the Xen portions of the game are perhaps better balanced than HL1 but have nothing to stand out. If this was back in the day and I paid 30$ for it I'd probably return it, to be quite honest. Just my opinion. Edit: I should also mention that the game has NO BOSSES. [link] [comments] |
