    Can someone defend black mesa to me?

    I remember following the black mesa development. In 2011. Shortly after i'd beaten half life for the first time and all the half life 2 episodes, my friend told me about this project. Their goal? rebuild half life 1 with half life 2 graphics. seemed cool. I remember downloading it (it was a work in progress available as a free download at the time). I remember thinking "whats the hold up?". At the time, valve games were still coming out regularly, so it seemed every couple years there was an engine enhancement and it either delayed the game or made the game get further behind in graphics. Anyway, I remember when it moved to steam, got valve's blessing, and when it released without xen.

    I haven't really followed it much since then, seen a headline here, a headline there. Now it seems its out out for real?

    But, i'm genuinely curious what's the point. I know its been a massive labor of love. the devs have worked tirelessly with many people, much custom art, custom voice acting, custom audio, tweaks to existing level geometry to make this not just half life 1, but a better half life 1.

    But at the end of the day, its now 2019, and we've successfully recreated half life 1 with 2007 graphics. I am not a fan of unreal engine remakes of games that lose all of the spirit of the original, so i understand there's an appeal to this vs something like project lambda.

    But they spent 10 years working on a mod, that is effectively a recreation of a 21 year old game with 12 year old graphics. Am i missing something else? Honestly i'd just as soon say go play project lambda or something. i'm sure its worse objectively and had less heart and soul, but OBJECTIVELY, what does the game offer?

    Was it worth 10 years?

    And that's why I'm removing it. No damage compensation, no antidotes, no morphine. You will be bare. It's time to Mann up and become the Hulk the resistance thinks you are. But of course, that should be fine for someone who can take an entire train down his whitey tighteys. Will upload a mod page once I'm about half done.

    Actual Info

    Damage will be amplified just about everywhere.

    You won't heal after a hit from a poison headcrab.

    Considering making headcrabs an insta-kill, but considering Gordan never puts a helmet on I may not.
