Gman is not as strong as we think he is Posted: 14 Dec 2020 08:18 AM PST Gman, when looking at his current feats, is actually much weaker then previously thought. Gman is either a high tier illusionist or low tier reality warped, here's why. -Gman has to do everything manually- Whenever Gman does anything, he has to physically be in the area to do it. When he goes to get any of the subjects, he is physically there each time. In opposing force, he physically arms the nuke back up after you disable it. In the beginning of HL1, he's speaking with one of the scientists and starts the resonance cascade. If Gman was so powerful, why doesn't he just do all these things from farther away? -Gman has to convince everyone to listen to him- This goes similarly to the previous point, Gman has to convince people to do what he wants. He can't force people to the tasks he wants them to do since it literally isn't possible for him. Whenever he wants someone to do something, he puts them in a stasis and teleports then to that destination (Ex: Gordon and Shepard). Though when he does try to force someone to do something, he can only give them a nod in the direction to do it. They still can do everything they originally were doing, so they still can undermine what he wanted him to do. It's just that subconsciously they will do the task he wants, meaning they can likely resist it. -Gman cannot stop time- It might seem like he can do it, but has he interacted with anything when it was "stopped"? No, instead of actually stopping time he stops your perception of time. This means every interaction with him ingame happens in your mind, not irl. That's why you cannot interact with anything, and why he can't either. The only time he has "interacted" with anything in this state was when he spoke to Alyx, and that only affected her subconsciously. -Gman cannot go back in time/ change events- In HL:Alyx, Gman knows every event that happens in HL2+. That concludes he either was informed of what happened then or he came back from that time period. Either way Gman is shown to go back to that period, because he is seen in the end credits. What we also see is that Gman no longer has his briefcase, meaning that past Gman and future Gman are the same people. Why is his briefcase missing? Why would Gman "the all powerful being", lose his briefcase? That's because he had to use his briefcases powers to be able to both go back in time and change events. Why would he need it do that? Because he can't do it himself, so instead he used the powers of his employers to do it. But they only gave him a limited supply for a back and forth trip, that's the reason he doesn't have it anymore since he used all of it up. TLDR: Gman can't alter time, physically affect anybody and has to do everything by hand. He is much weaker then we think he is, and mostly uses the powers of his employees to do major tasks. Theory: "Gordon can you hear me?" Posted: 14 Dec 2020 04:57 AM PST Spoilers for Half-Life Alyx. I was reminded of the "Gordon can you hear me?" easter egg from Half-Life 2 today and it got me thinking. What if it's Alyx from her G-Man stasis at the end of HLA trying to contact Gordon using her connection to the Vortessence to communicate. The reason for it being so distorted is because it's being transmitted through different realities, even different timelines. And when it features at the beginning of HLA it is actually a foreshadow to the end of the game. Alyx hearing her own message from the future, but accidentally delivered to the wrong person. I have a theory regarding Half-Life Alyx's Vault and Episode 1. Posted: 14 Dec 2020 06:48 AM PST I'm not sure if anyone around here has come to this conclusion but I'll say it anyway. So, the Vault. We all know it's a prison built by the Combine to contain the Gman by using the Vortessence from slaved Vortigaunts. When I finished the game I thought that the Vortessence was a way from Valve to hint who was inside the Vault, using a callback to episode 1 when Gordon is saved from the Gman by Vortigaunts. A popular theory that I see regarding Gman is that he travels back in time five years to let himself be captured by the Combine so he can be saved by Alyx, thus proving herself worthy, and hire her, replacing Gordon. I once shared this theory but recently I came up with a new theory. I belive that Gman being captured by the Combine in the Vault and Gman being stoped by the Vortigaunts at the beginning of Episode 1, are both the same event. I belive that right after the ending of Half-Life 2 Gman somehow gets captured 5 years in the past and Gordon is saved by the vortigaunts in the present. And I belive that when Gman talks to Gordon on Episode 2 asking him to "seek her safetly to white forest", he is in fact in the Vault. Okay so stay with me. At the beginning of Episode 1 Gman is stoped by exactly 8 Vortigaunts, and this could be mere coincidence, but the Vault has exactly 8 substations attached to it. I think that each Vortigaunt represents each substation. Then again, this could be just a coincidence. But there is a very strong evidence that I think really supports this teory. In the post-credits scene of Half-Life Alyx, you can see Gman on the left. Gman didn't appear at all in any of both episodes because he was being somehow "restricted" but right after Alyx breaks him free from the Vault, there he is. I've been thinking a lot about this and it just makes so much sense. Please let me know what you think about this theory. Theorizing about how time works with Gman and the Vortigaunts is really interesting to me and I would love to know your thoughts. [link] [comments] | ||
