    hes a scientist slash physicist slash chemist all his life with a phd and possibly the greatest thesis in the history of mankind, but today he's late for his 9 to 5 work. But after he picks his first pistol from a security guard how did he suddenly have the skill to become the most feared gunslinger fighter assassin warrior by noon? Not only that, because on the same night he becomes an intergalactic renegade liberator and interdimensional conqueror. All in one day. And that smug asshole who had his lunch burned in an oven due to our invasive meddling in other's affairs had the nerve to shame us due to his own impotence.

    We know shepard is literally a prodigy, a marine corporal at 22 years old who just got assigned to HECU, and barney is a veteran security guard who knows black mesa like the back of his hand. So is there anything about freeman's background aside from purely being our player character?
