My rules for playing Half-Life 1 and its expansions Posted: 12 Jun 2021 07:26 AM PDT When playing Half-Life 1, Blue Shift, and Opposing Force: - Check the corners for Headcrabs - There is always a second Headcrab behind the first one - Smash every box - Jump up and down when you ride an elevator (to avoid a bug) - Houndeyes travel in packs, Bullsquids don't - Let the Barnacle pull you up and stab it (unless it's too high) - Vortigaunts teleport in groups, and there is one behind you - Stab the zombies twice and step back to avoid getting slapped. Repeat until they're dead - Never kill the security guards, they can unlock a nearby armory - Never kill the scientists, they can unlock doors - Tentacles can't see you, but they can hear you - Don't waste grenades to distract the tentacles, crouch and walk instead - When traveling on the rail and see the end of the line, there is a trap ahead - The pistol is better at long range than the rifle/SMG - Help the enemy soldiers kill the aliens, deal with the soldiers later (human solidarity and aliens are harder to kill) - Stand at the door and let the enemy soldiers come to you (watch out for grenades) - Never get close to the Gargantua, you'll get toasted - The Gluon Gun tears through the Gargantua - The Tau Cannon tears through helicopters - The Hive Hand's hornets follow the Ichtyosaur underwater - Don't use Snarks, just don't (unless you're at a high vantage point) - The assassins will blindly walk through the trip mines, trigger them and let them come to you - Turn off the tracker on the RPG before hitting tanks, keep it when hitting helicopters - Hit tanks in the turret not in the body - Don't break the barrels in the alien factory, they contain Alien Grunts (Half-Life only) - Don't shoot the Vortigaunts in the alien factory unless they attack first (Half-Life only) - Zigzag and run back to avoid the Alien Grunts' hornets - Don't let the Alien Controllers swarm you, kill them immediately - Hit Gonarch in its sack - When the Nihilanth doesn't spread its arms all the way, it's a teleporter. Don't panic When playing Opposing Force: - The knife is much faster than the wrench - Don't fire the Shock Roach underwater - Don't let the Barnacle Grapple take you all the way to the top, the drop might be high - Don't get close to the Gonome. If you do, run - Never kill the friendly soldiers, engineers can unlock doors and medics can heal you - The Black Ops don't take extra damage in the head, just hit the body - The Shock Roach tears through the Black Ops and has infinite ammo - The Spore Launcher tears through Shock Troopers - The Machine Gun tears through any enemy - Pit Drones travel in packs - Take a few steps back after killing the Shock Troopers, the Shock Roach will jump at you - The Pit Worm's laser follows you - Hit the Pit Worm in its eye to make it recoil. That's when you need to move - Teleport the Voltigores out of existence with the Displacer Cannon - Wait for the Gene Worm to finish its attack before rushing towards the laser guns [link] [comments]

A defeated nation (a little something I made in a lecture) Posted: 12 Jun 2021 11:41 AM PDT The beeping from the car echoed in an eerie and claustrophobic environment, penetrating the walls, escaping from the world it found itself in. The day-old decaying body of a dead guard, once a respected member of a seemingly unnecessary department lay dead among a puddle of dried blood. The crackle of a radio static joined the melancholy that bestowed on the entrance to a roofed parking lot, once a convenience to the preoccupied employee's going about their day. The radio crackled to life catching freeman off-guard, the announcement was another broadcast from the EAS system. "The following message is broadcast at the request of the United States Department of defense, this is not a test." It announced the evacuation and the commencing of immediate airstrikes over black mesa. He stepped further into the disarray of the area, he saw bodies from marines littered on the broken tarmac. Blood oozing from severe wounds that no bullet could bear to see. The smell of rotting carcasses filled the freeman's nose. A smell he'd grown accustomed to throughout the past day. The sound of a marine crying for help over a radio only to receive no comfort in death, just pain. Freeman had had little sympathy for the men and women sent in to kill him and his peers, but now he realized the severity of the situation. He contemplated their role in the disaster, only for his train of thought to be destroyed by the roar of a Xen being. He knew what it was. He knew what it meant. He could only hope for the best as he carried on past the burning vehicles and alien bodies. The sound of marines shouting to one another before frantically running filled his ears before crawling out into the junction. The gargantuan beast came running towards him, and the fuel truck in between them. He dashed along the road as the mighty vehicle exploded behind him, the beast gave chase... can't be asked to finnish it XD [link] [comments]

Posted: 12 Jun 2021 06:58 AM PDT Valve or fans should make a final game to end them all. Including portal. The entire half-life universe brought together in one final war that explains the entire history of half-life and portal and all that. [link] [comments]
