Was the HL dam inspired by The Hoover Dam? They look so similar.

    Half-Life with RTX

In my opinion, the PS2 port of Half-Life is the best version of the game.

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 09:48 PM PDT

Yeah, there's no mods or the expansions, but as just the game itself I think the PS2 version is the best for a few reasons.

For one, it's the most content rich version of HL. You've got the original game, of course, but you've also got an entirely new coop campaign in Decay, which is pretty awesome, a head-to-head mode, and a slew of fun cheats including being able to play a vortigaunt. It also made level changes that added sections, which is pretty neat.

Second, on a technical level it's the best looking version of the game. It uses the HD models of weapons and NPC's, and while I know people have divisive opinions on the HD models, they do make the game look better overall, especially being on the PS2. There's also new 3D models for things like the chargers and health stations with their own custom animations. It also runs pretty well considering, even with the occasional frame dip.

Finally, for a port of a PC game to a console, it gives you a lot of buffer to make the experience more comfy. For one, it actually has quick saves, something that I don't think any other console game was doing in 2001. Them there's the fact you can totally rebind your controls to whatever you want, a very welcome feature especially nowadays. As for the transition to a controller from K&M, it feels very natural to play, and the game gives you a very handy lock-on feature to make analog aiming a breeze. Finally, if you just can't get used to using a controller, you can actually plug in a mouse and keyboard and the game uses it natively. What other console FPS at the time did that? You rarely see that today.

For all these reasons, I think the PS2 version is the best version of HL. Of course I prefer playing it on PC for mods and the expansions, but the PS2 version is the one I first experienced HL on, and I think it has its advantages in a number of ways.

    Controls for Airboat bad???

    Posted: 25 Oct 2019 06:50 PM PDT

Is it just me, or are the controls for the airboat in HL2 absolute dog sh!t. I played the Console version on my Xbox One, and I seemed to have the problem of only going straight forward, in reverse, or turning left or right. Never could I go forward by turning slightly left or right. Is the airboat a lot easier to control on PC, or is the airboat really designed to be hard to control?
