MASSIVE SPOILER FOR HALF LIFE: ALYX. I thought of a theory that makes a lot of sense, that ties into another theory going around, that also happens to make a lot of sense

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 03:23 PM PDT

So there's a theory going around (which seems to make sense and is already canon to some people) that the events of HL:A are a result of Gman going back on time, to allow himself be captured by the combine, so Alyx can come free him and save Eli. The reason he theoretically did that might be because he was disappointed in Gordon for failing to save Eli for whatever plans he needed him for. But I'm not here to repeat this theory to you. I want to tell you about something I thought of when I was on the shitter, but I think it makes a lot of sense regardless. This won't be a super long text. In HL:A we hear Russell talking to Alyx, how he tried to get a job at Black Mesa, but got turned down. So in my opinion we don't see Russell in HL2 is because he originally got the job in Black Mesa and died there, but when Gman went back in time to get captured by the combine, he also made sure, that Russell doesn't get the job and doesn't die during the incident, because without Russell, Alyx would never have made it to the vault to free Gman and save Eli Vance. This assumes that he somehow affected decisions of, "hired" or is helping Russell somehow to make the right choices, but I'm willing to bet it on that. Please tell me if you see anything wrong with my theory. Maybe I missed something, or I'm really going far with this one.

Before Half-Life 2 was released, what did people think a sequel to Half-Life would look like?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 10:32 AM PDT

And did they even think that Half-Life would get/have a sequel?

It's not my best art, but I made an idea for a Half-Life creature ("Insect-Like" Headcrab)

Dammit Valve, you had one job!

Half Life Alyx's big plot point - a last minute idea? (Spoilers)

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 08:51 AM PDT

Don't know if this was talked about here before, in which case sorry.

So, the guy who animated Gman released this video a few days ago: https://twitter.com/i/status/1258806825228488706

As you can probably hear, Alyx's dialogue is completely different, but it is the new voice (not Merle).

Notice how she says "There was supposed to be a superweapon - are you the weapon, is it in the briefcase?" - He doesn't mention Gordon: in fact, in the final game you know it's not an actual weapon, by the time you get there: This means that the whole "it's Gordon freeman" idea came pretty last minute, and we can probably point out when too:

According to Valve News Network, back in December, when the game was first shown, people who already had access told him that most of the voicework for Alyx's was still Merle's and that the new voice was being recorded then: this means that by December the Gordon part wasn't there yet and so this means that they added that part sometime in early 2020.

I find it very interesting that they were still making such big changes so late in development, as the story is usually set in stone much earlier than that.

    Plot hole in Half-Life Alyx

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 01:47 PM PDT

So in HL: Alyx, the reason you can't take the Combine's weapons is because they're "gene-coded", hence having to find an unbonded weapon later in the game, however in HL2, many of Gordon's weapons are directly taken from combine soldiers, such as the Pistol, SMG and Pulse Rifle, and I can agree that perhaps the Pistol and SMG's weren't gene-locked as they weren't very high-powered weapons, however the Pulse Rifle in HL2 is a large version of the automatic gun in HL: Alyx, so surely that one should be gene-coded? The combine wouldn't have downgraded their technology like that.

I’m a bit out of the loop. Where do you get all those nice looking HL2 models?

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:38 PM PDT

Okay so to get y'all up to speed, I haven't played HL:A cause I don't have a VR headset, so my entire experience was through YouTube.

Now, I know that you can explore the files and that's how the community got a hold of the hi-res Gordon, Alyx, G-Man and such, but look

Down below, there's an Overwatch Elite model that looks amazing, or the lighting does at least.

Then there are some photos of a Barney model, citizen models, and so on.

    Where do you get these?

    Small detail in Alyx ending

    Posted: 01 Jun 2020 02:33 PM PDT

Maybe someone already noticed it or even wrote about it, but in the moment when Alyx asks Gman "combines off earth", Gman splits into two persons. Maybe it is a key to explanation of a plot hole. Maybe there is one reality where he agreed to nudge things in this direction, woke up Gordon, met some troubles, went back in time, refused her offer and suggested to save Eli.

Nevertheless there are still a lot of questions about ending, that makes no sense in general story, so possibly it's just my fantasy. How could Alyx came back from prison (in reality where Gman agrees) without any suspicion from Eli if he guessed there was Gman in that ship. Was her memory erased or what?
