| A theory about the G-Man's motivations Posted: 06 Jun 2020 07:16 PM PDT Michael Shapiro, gman's voice actor, said that the gman is playing a long game. I think it might be longer than most of us think. Essentially, I think the gman is actually on our side, or at least is against the combine. He has god-like powers but can't directly interfere, or else the combine would notice, or it would be too large of a nudge for his employers. So instead, he's simply doing his best to put all the pieces in place. Hence why he puts people like Gordon and Alyx in stasis. He's saving them for later, so that they can make the most impact at a later date. He "nudges" things so that everything works out in his favor, against the combine. This is also why he caused the resonance cascade. He wanted to draw the combine to Earth because he knew that the human race would be a formidable force against the combine. And he wouldn't be noticed because he just gave them a sample, and didn't directly cause it. There are sort of two paths this can take. Either gman is relying on earth to defeat the combine, or earth is just one part of a much larger scheme, where the combine are slowly weakened over a huge timescale.
