(also Vent on fandom hypocrisy) Posted: 18 Oct 2020 07:11 PM PDT Part 1: Mmod I heard while watching JarekTheGamingDragon's Mmod video that Mmod is often criticized by Half-Life 2 purists. Maybe I'm not down the rabbit hole far enough but I've never seen anybody shit on Mmod, but only people talk about how its criticized. Unlike the CM which is easy to find criticism off. As a bit of a HL2 fanboy myself I have 0 beef with Mmod and how it modified HL2 unlike CM which I feel didn't understand HL2's art direction and how to adapt it to a modern cinematic style.. Mmod still looks like HL2 too me and seems very respectful of what valve was doing ;D Part 2: Fanbase hypocrisy As a side note I'd read criticisms that HL2 fanbase has a 'purist' problem, which while true I'm sure I feel is unfair to level at HL2 fans specifically and not the fanbase as a whole. "The Half-Life 2 is held on an untouchable pedestal" argument bothers the heck out of me when its said by people who hold Half-Life 1 on an even higher more even more untouchable pedestal and play it 6+ times a year but treat Half-Life 2 like a mutated freak of a sequel. Whenever flaws of HL2 are discussed its more of a "oh yeah screw that overrated game lol" but whenever I have something I don't like about the first one I'm told to stfu and keep quiet even if it was a flaw in both games.
