Briliant detail/foreshadowing no one noticed! On the 7 hour war newspaper we can see two combine dropships and one strider, and that's exactly what we fight towards the end of the game!

The reason the Gman caused the resonance cascade, essentially leading to the Combine coming to earth, is because he wants to harness their dimensional teleportation technology. Why you ask? So he can travel to the Counter-Strike universe, and UNSTUCK THE DOOR. But that's just theory. A GAME THEORY.
