    I just finished Half Life 1 for the first time! wow absolutely amazing journey!

    This game is incredible, and for 1998 this is absolutely amazing, i made a post on this subreddit before saying how this game never told you where to go and i used to get lost all the time in this game, but i did a fresh start of the game today, and finished it today as well :D, been playing all day and i need a break, but this is amazing, enemies, music, levels are so good! I didn't get lost this time and i'm so happy!

    i love how to reach the final boss you had to go to a different dimension or planet (Xen) to beat him, btw that boss was huge! my friend called it a fat weird baby even though it was the nihilanth who is really a brown looking fetus so yeah, but he did look scary! It's similar to Earthbound you know? in Earthbound you travel to the past to fight the boss, Giygas. In Half Life you travel to a dimension to fight!

    Guns were great, nice climactic story, i didn't expect Gordon to be captured by the military and then he got dumped lol but it was a good touch.

    off to Half Life 2 !

    This is the train station in Sofia, Bulgaria, the city that served as the inspiration for City 17. That means we can do at least some of Half-Life 2 IRL. Might be hard to do, since it's only inspiration, and not a model, but wouldn't it be cool to try?

    Since the Half Life games tend to use music so sparingly, do you ever find yourself playing your own music during a run? Is there any music you think compliments the atmosphere of any of the games?

    Personally I find a lot of late 90s Drum n Bass and HL1 were just made for each other. The darker more technical stuff like Ed Rush and Optical really amplifies the urgency and terror of making your way through a collapsing, set-for-demolition underground research facility while the heavier jump-up tunes from Dillinja or Bad Company make you feel even more badass blasting through all the aliens and Marines up topside. The overall raw, relentless sound from that era is the perfect match for one of the best shooters of the same era IMO.

    Hunt Down the Freeman refined

    Hunt Down the Freeman is an interesting concept, and it has a great story, it's cutscenes are especially great, but it would've been done better as an sfm and if it's story was refined. It could even count as canon. Characters are gray and not good/evil.

    Part I: Black Mesa

    Mitchell Shephard's father sends him and Adrian to the military to continue their legacy of serving the U.S. Army which Mitchell and Adrian didn't want to do. Then, it shows how rigorous the training was, but in the end, they got promoted, with Adrian in the Marines and Mitchell in the Navy (with correct uniforms). Mitchell then comes into Black Mesa hearing his brother Adrian in danger, not caring that Adrian was in the Marines. Mitchell witnesses so many marines die at the hands of Gordon Freeman that he attempts to go in and kill him, but Mitchell sees millions of Xen aliens closing on him and tries to fight them, swearing to kill Freeman for what he did. While Adrian is behind Gordon in Lambda Core, after Gordon enters, Mitchell eventually misses his opportunity to catch Freeman heading in Xen (Black Mesa version). Adrian eventually heads into the portal, with Mitchell attempting to rescue his brother. Mitchell swears to kill Gordon Freeman. Mitchell then heads back, where he thinks he sees Gordon Freeman, but it is really Adam disguised in an HEV Suit and using a crowbar to kill the Marines. Mitchell and Adam (disguised as Freeman) then battle, but Adam eventually knocks down Mitchell, and eventually prepares to plunge the crowbar into Mitchell's head to kill him, but Mitchell grabs the crowbar which it then slashes his face and takes his eye, leaving Mitchell partially blind and eyeless. Mitchell swears Gordon Freeman's death will occur for the Marines and for destroying his face. Gman (without Mitchell saying anything) makes a deal with Mitchell, that if he can kill Gordon Freeman, he will reap in rewards (he will not tell Mitchell what it is to make it more mysterious)

    Part II: 7 Hour War

    Mitchell is demoted for disobeying orders, is sent to a fisher to catch fish for the Navy. Earth however is eventually attacked by Portal Storms where he witnesses tons of enemies infecting Earth's population, such as Houndeyes, Bullsquids, Headcrabs, Antlions, Stukabats, Hydras, Tentacles, Barnacles, Icthyosaurs, Gonarchs, Sand Barnacles, Beneathacles (water barnacles), fire fumers, Gargantuas, Fast Headcrabs, and more Xen creatures invading. With Earth's population infected, Mitchell becomes an Icthyosaur fisher, hoping to fish the Icthyosaurs out of the water after the portal storms calm. However, a portal comes in, allowing the Combine to invade. Realizing they have superior technology, he uses whatever he can, even a stitched together Yamato with enough AA Turrets and Battleship Cannons. However, the Combine's superior numbers and technology allowed them to drain the Pacific Ocean where Mitchell resides. Mitchell then escapes, meeting up with other people from the Army, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard. The president (not Keemstar, Keemstar is the worst example of a president, I can't give my political opinion), Barrack Obama announces that Earth has surrendered, The Universal Union has subjugated Earth, and Dr. Wallace Breen of Black Mesa has made a deal with the UU in order to save humanity. They then hide in certain areas, eating on wildlife, until former militaries come. They then realize they can't have a uniform, they must use whatever they can to defeat the UU, even if that means using technology of the Nazis, Soviet Union, and other nations that are considered evil in order to do whatever it takes to destroy the Combine.

    Part III: Resistance, Meeting Adam, and saving children

    The Combine Hunters, Super Soldiers, and Cremators are about to kill Mitchell as he is running, but Adam using the Sniper Rifle (cut from HL2) and a gluon gun (based on MMOD which has the AR2, but it shoots Gluon Gun particles) kills the Hunters, Super Soldiers, and Cremators. Mitchell then meets Adam, who reveals he is working for the Resistance and gives Mitchell Combine tech as Earth is becoming obsolete, so to fight fire, he needs fire. Mitchell then trusts Adam for saving him, so he makes Adam his second in command. Adam then reveals he heard rumors about Boris and his daughter who wish they could join the Resistance, but The Combine are threatening Sasha and the children. Mitchell, Adam, and the Resistance from American, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, French, Korean, Italian, British, Turkish, Pakistanian, Egyptian, Taiwin, Israel, Australian, Thai, Polish, German, Indonesian, Canadian, and other militaries head into the factory, with Mitchell being the one who negotiates with Boris. Boris reveals that he wishes he could join the Resistance, but the Combine are threatning Sasha and the children. Mitchell still says similar things, and things happen similarily, but this time things are different. Mitchell then burns the factory to the ground, saving the children, and preparing to train them. The militaries of the countries undergo Navy training and have translators, still having cultural differences, but needing to unite under one banner if they are to defeat the Combine. They then train the kids under different cultures, hoping that once the fighting is done, they will be able to speak the languages once spoken.

    Part IV: Events of HL2 E3 (based on events, but not canon to Boreal Alyph) and making deal with Dr. Breen

    17 years later, during the events of HL2 Episode III (Boreal Alyph), Mitchell heards rumors of Gordon Freeman being in the Resistance. With Gordon Freeman being the final hope. Mitchell then briefs the soldiers on how they will go to City 17 to surrender to the Combine in hopes of defeating Gordon Freeman, a godlike person. Mitchell wants to kill Freeman for revenge, letting ego over the greater good take him. Millions of Resistance members are disgusted by Mitchell wanting to surrender to hunt down freeman, even seeing him as a selfish, revenge-thirsty coward. The Resistance then banishes Mitchell, making him go on his own. The story diverges when Mitchell makes a deal with Dr. Breen, now an advisor. Mitchell promises to Hunt down Gordon Freeman in the arctic along with Alyx Vance.

    Part V: Fighting Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance

    As Gordon Freeman and Alyx Vance are securing the Portal Device to prevent any more Combine invasions while returning the natural resources to Earth, Mitchell then tries to stop Gordon Freeman. Alyx then tries to kill Mitchell, but instead Mitchell kills Alyx Vance. Gordon and Mitchell then battle with Gordon having to fight a very skilled Marine. However, Gordon Freeman because he killed the Nihilanth (from Black Mesa's version) and millions of Combine soldiers, eventually wins, killing Mitchell, however, Mitchell also destroys Gordon Freeman's suit and scars him too.

    Why did the color of Gordon's HEV change before release?

    In early to mid-1998, Gordon's HEV was red like here, sometimes reddish orange (possibly just the footage and lighting) like here. In the final game, it's pure orange. So why the change?

    Alias not working

    I'm trying to make a script that will allow me to toggle noclip and change speed because in my opinion the noclip speed is too slow. I've used the same script with different names and commands and it works just as intended, but for some reason it refuses to work.

    alias "noclipplus" "ncp1" alias "ncp1" "noclip;sv_maxspeed 600;alias noclipplus ncp2" alias "ncp2" "noclip;sv_maxspeed 320;alias noclipplus ncp1" bind v "noclipplus"

    Whenever I press V the console reads "Unknown command: ncp1"" despite me declaring the alias.

    Does anybody have a fix for this that doesn't require installing any mods or different versions of Half-Life, I'm using the steampipe version.

    I'm not sure if it makes a difference but it may be worth noting that when it gives me the Unknown command message it adds a " at the end of ncp1.

    HL2 on PS3?

    Hi Folks,

    Which options do i have for getting HL2 and maybe HL1 on PS3? Afaik none of them are available for PS4. For PS3 i only found the orange Box. Its stated that the orange box only offers HL2 episode 2 which is not the full game??

    I only own a PS3 and 4 and a switch - no PC :(

    Any suggestions?
