    It's simple and possibly quite disappointing, but I believe the G-Man's employers are Valve, and he represents the way Valve watches how the player responds to certain events, and "nudges", as he calls it, what will happen or what has accordingly. The development process, basically. It would explain why G-Man replaced Gordon with Alyx; it was simply because we were playing as Alyx, not Gordon. Furthermore, in the E3 demos, G-Man acts as a presenter for new technology, as he would present the world of Half-Life 2 to the player. He isn't part of any scheme in the in-game universe, he was only hired to bring the crystal, blow the nuke, and do all the other stuff that makes the plot go. He goes through three almost completely different appearances over the engines (note the ties getting increasingly purple), and I suggest that's because he has to "enter" each engine, and each time, he formed and subsequently perfected his appearance. That's all I can come up with right now, hopefully people expand on this, despite the fact I have just called it "quite disappointing".

    Forgive the hyperbole but the game is such a monumental achievement from a production standpoint. Everything about it, especially the god-tier original soundtracks, is just so perfect it's insane. If you told me before that this is an official Half-Life remake by Valve I would have definitely believed you.

    So we have the every-once-in-a-while talk of if headcrabs variants are a natural adaptation of the OG headcrab or Combine Bio-Engineering specialized weapons. And I'll give it my shot saying that it's actually the second one
