Posted: 24 Mar 2021 08:24 PM PDT Interestingly enough, both in-universe and from our perspective as players, the Half-Life series has been going on for over 20 years now. But I thought it might be worth bringing up that to Gordon, or at least from his perception of time, everything in the series from waking up on the morning of the Resonance Cascade to the encounter with the Advisors in the hangar after closing the Combine Superportal, took place over just a little over a week. Specifically, around 8 days, or 9 days if we count Black Mesa as canon. Gordon was put into stasis for about 20 years in-universe, but from his perspective, it lasted about a day. He didn't age or change in any way during that time, so from his perspective, he was dropped into City 17 about 24 hours after he killed the Nihilanth. Then there's the week-long gap between Entanglement and Anticitizen One - Gordon and Alyx spent a week teleporting from Nova Prospekt to Dr. Kleiner's lab, but they perceived it to be only a few seconds. For all intents and purposes, to them, it was about another 24 hours between escaping Nova Prospekt and confronting Breen in the Citadel. What complicates things is that Valve plays pretty loose with what's canon and what isn't. They seem to have a pretty positive opinion of Black Mesa, so let's assume that it's "semi-canon", kind of like Opposing Force. The events of HL1 take place over about two days in the original, but closer to three days in Black Mesa, considering how much Surface Tension and the Xen chapters are expanded. So let's take a look at the full timeline from Gordon's perspective. Day 1: Black Mesa Inbound to On A Rail Day 2: Apprehension to Nihilanth (original) or Apprehension to Lambda Core (Black Mesa) Day 3: Stasis (original) or Lambda Core to Nihilanth (Black Mesa) Day 4: Point Insertion to Ravenholm (original) or Stasis (Black Mesa) Day 5/6: Ravenholm to Entanglement Day 6/7: Anticitizen One to Dark Energy Day 7/8: Undue Alarm to Exit 17 Day 8/9: To The White Forest to T-Minus One Imagine how insane this must all be for Gordon. Think of the final battle with the Striders at White Forest. From Gordon's perspective, his life was completely normal, and his biggest concern was being late for work, just 8 or 9 days earlier. I have no idea what made me think of this, but I just thought I'd share. [link] [comments] | ||
